So, What Exactly Is The Mud Daddy Portable Dog Shower?
The Mud Daddy portable washer for dogs is a portable dog shower designed and manufactured by UK based company Mud Daddy who market a range of dog care items and accessories. Marketed as a portable power free dog shower it lends itself to not only washing dogs but bikes, boots, feet in fact anything that can get wet, muddy & messy!
The Mud daddy dog shower range comes in a range of sizes for all situations and includes 5L, 8L and 12L versions of the Mud Maddy itself alongside the recently introduced 5L Mud Mummy powered dog shower. There are a range of useful Mud Daddy accessories too including a power brush, Mud Daddy insulating jackets to keep the shower water warmer for longer and various hose and brush extensions.
We took our dogs for a long, long walk in our local woods armed with both the Mud Daddy & Mud Mummy and our dog walking bag & dog drying bag to put both the Mud Daddy and the Mud Mummy through their paces with lots of mud, sweat but hopefully no tears!
The Mud Daddy Dog Shower Construction
The Mud Daddy portable washer for dogs is constructed of high quality & heavy duty moulded plastic with a moulded carrying handle, a screw top filling point that also doubles as the pressure charging point, a three metre flexible hose and a brush handle with interchangeable heads and a manual water flow trigger.
The first thing that you notice about the Mud Daddy dog shower is how sturdy and well made it is. Everything seems heavy duty and designed to last for years & years of very muddy dog washes.
So How Exactly Does The Mud Daddy Dog Washer Work?
The Mud Daddy portable dog shower is a piece of cake to prepare and use. The initial hose attachment was a simple job of pushing the hose onto the bottom mounted water outlet and securing it with a retaining nut as shown in the pictures.
Once the hose is secured you unscrew the filling cap, pop the Mud Daddy under the tap until full then simply screw the cap on finger tight and the dog shower is ready for action.
The Mud Daddy can be filled with cold or warm water and is even designed to be used with shampoo added to the contents so we were confident that it could handle even the muddiest of dogs! It is obviously important not to fill the Mud Daddy with boiling water as this could cause it to melt or become over pressurised.
Unless it's the hottest of hot Summer days we guess that most dog owners like us will be filling their Mud Daddy up with tepid water so that their dogs do not have to endure the shock of a freezing cold shower! Warmer water also seems to help to dislodge the mud quicker so it's a warm water win for both dog and owner.

Mud Daddy claim that water will stay warm for up to two and a half hours in both the Mud Daddy & Mud Mummy and we found this to be correct and the water was still warm after a three hour long walk so unless you are walking for a very long time you can usually be sure of a nice warm shower for your dogs.
Is the Mud Daddy Easy To Use?
In the field (excuse the pun), the Mud Daddy dog shower was a breeze to use. Once we had walked Charlie for a couple of hours and he was sufficiently muddy it was a simple job of popping the Mud Daddy on the grass, pumping the built in pressure handle around twenty times, pressing the water release trigger and Charlie was greeted with a wonderful stream of warm water to clean his muddy bits.
The two metre hose and brush makes it easy to clean even the largest of dogs and even dogs that fidget.
The water flow is continuous once the trigger is depressed and although the flow continues for a good while from the fist pumps you will need to repressurise a few times if you plan on using all eight litres of water. Pressurising the Mud daddy was simple and the operation was silent and the water was still comfortably warm even after our long walk.
Now, whilst the water flow from the Mud daddy wasn't as powerful as a bathroom shower or a hose pipe it was still more than adequate to clean off even the most stubborn bits of mud from between Charlie's toes! The silent operation and the fact that we were cleaning our dog outside of our long suffering shower cubicle at home was a joy to behold. Obviously the more pumps you do to pressurise the Mud Daddy the faster and stronger the flow of water but care needs to be taken so that you don't inadvertently over pressurise it!
Once Charlie was clean we then used the Mud Daddy portable washer on our muddy wellies with the last of the warm water. This meant that we could get back into our car with clean boots and without the need of bringing a change of shoes which was a relief.
Does the Mud Daddy Dog Shower Actually Clean Dirty Dogs?
In a word, yes. Is the Mud Daddy one of the best dog showers, again yes.
From its solid, high quality construction to its long & flexible hose, easy pumping and great water flow the Mud Daddy dog shower makes keeping your dog, car and house mud free a simple and painless process even after the wettest of walks.
Charlie can be an absolute mud magnet and we really wondered whether the Mud Daddy could cut it against a really muddy Wheaten Terrier but it performed beautifully and clean Charlie was a happy dog thanks to the warm water and we were happy owners thanks to our clean boots and clean car!

Whilst using the shower for the first time we had a lot of people stopping to watch and comment on how cool and effective the Mud daddy was at cleaning Charlie and every single person went away seemingly impressed by its portability and how well it performed. In fact the "Mud Daddy Crowd" is something that we have got used to even though Charlie is still a bit shy about his new found dog shower fame!

Our Mud Daddy Dog Shower Verdict
The Mud daddy portable dog shower has changed the way that we think about dog walking. Whereas before it was sometimes a chore bundling muddy dogs into our clean car, since we have started using the Mud Daddy washer for dogs muddy paws have become a thing of the past and our car, bathroom and house in general have all become mud free zones. The fact that you can take a warm shower with you wherever yo go is an absolute game changer.
The Mud Daddy excels at cleaning dogs after long and muddy walks and the decent water flow and innovative brush design makes mud busting and detangling an easy and straightforward job whilst out and about. Its size and weight mean that it is portable and easy to pop into the boot before leaving and its construction means that water stays warm for many hours meaning that your dog can always enjoy a warm shower down at the end of their walk.
And the mud daddy isn't just for dogs and dog walkers. As a fully portable shower the Mud Daddy could be used to clean bikes, horses, prams, shoes and even as a festival shower, the list of uses really does seem endless.
